Praying to the True Cross for better weather: Unrecorded 18th-century broadside.

Affine d’ implorare da DIO SIGNORE la Serenità, che attesa la continuata piovosa Stagione di rende tanto necessaria per la Campagna, hanno determinato gl’ Illustrissimi Signori Anziani un Triduo di divozione nella Cattedrale, mediante l’Esposizione della Preziosa Reliquia del LEGNO della SANTA CROCE, con la Benedizione della Medesima alla sera di ciascuno delli tre giorni, che comincieranno li 31. dello scadente Luglio. Tutti pertanto dell’ uno, e dell’ altro sesso, oltre le Religioni, e Confraternite, che nel tempo del detto Triduo interverranno regolatamente all’ adorazione della SACRA RELIQUIA, sono invitati a concorrervi con intense disposizione, e pregare il Dator d’ ogni Bene a rendere esaudite per atto d’ infinita sua Misericordia le pubbliche Orazioni. Vertical fold at center, wrinkling, minor edge wear, two small holes touching two letters but not affecting legibility, sewing holes at bottom edge. 
 
 
Unrecorded 18th-century broadside from Parma announcing that a relic of the True Cross will be displayed in a three-day veneration intended to regulate seasonal rainfall in the area. The triduum celebration was to begin on 31 July 1765 with a benediction in Parma Cathedral of a fragment of wood from the Cross. The broadside, which no doubt was intended to be posted on a wall for the benefit of the public, states that both men and women (including confraternity members) should visit the relic so that continuous, intense prayer might convince the “Giver of all Good” to show mercy in weather-related matters. Ephemeral material of this sort rarely survives today.
