Unrecorded late 18th-century broadside announcing a day of music at the Bolognese church of San Giovanni in Monte to be conducted by celebrated maestri from the Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna. The concert honored the procession of the Blessed Sacrament following Mass on the Sunday of the feast of Corpus Domini (i.e., 22 June 1800). At the center of the sheet is an engraving of putti displaying the emblem of the Academy, i.e., an organ with the motto “Unitate melos.” Ephemeral material relating to specific performances in this period has today become quite rare.
Headlining the event was Tommaso Marchesi, Principe (1773-1852), who was joined in presenting the morning Mass by Tommaso Luigi Palmerini (1768-1842), Giuseppe Landi, and Giovanni Battista Gajani (1757-1819). The “Sinfonia” is credited to Francesco Rastrelli, while the dopo pranzo evening offering was by Landi (“Tantum ergo”) and Gioachino Rastrelli (“Lauda Sion”).
Founded in 1666, the Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna counted among its many illustrious members Arcangelo Corelli, the castrato Carlo Farinelli, Johann Christian Bach, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
This broadside is not located by OCLC, KVK or OPAC.
